Kansas City Mahjong was created to bring people together through the joy of American Mahjong. We believe learning the game should feel welcoming, social, and fun - not intimidating. Through thoughtfully designed lessons and gatherings, we create space for connection, friendship, and community, with a seat at the table for players of every level.
Meet Lauren
Hi, I’m Lauren, the founder of Kansas City Mahjong! I grew up in the Dallas area playing American Mahjong with my mom, grandmothers, sister, and cousins. What started as a family tradition has grown into a true love of the game and a passion for teaching and bringing people together.I now live in Kansas City with my husband, our two girls, and golden retriever. I started this business to create something joyful, meaningful, and community-focused while building a career that allows more flexibility for family life. As a former elementary school teacher, I love breaking the game down in a way that feels clear, approachable, and fun, whether you’re brand new or ready to build more confidence and strategy. The reasons I love mahjong are endless — the challenge, strategy, history, fun, and the way it keeps our brains sharp — but most of all, I love that it’s a connector.I’m so glad you’re here and I can’t wait to get you hooked on mahjong too.
